  1. The use of technology is important for students to promote thinking and collaborative skills. In the video students seem eager to do learning which engages their intellect and creativity as opposed to simple rote and uncreative means of learning.

  2. The use of technology is important for student engagement because it is something they are exposed to throughout the day (more than any other medium). For students, technology is "fun" (ipod, computer, video games) if we can incorporate these "fun" aspects of a student's life into school we can get students to be more excited and participatory in the classroom. It is taking their lives and experiences and making them relevant within the classroom and the content.

  4. Today's students spend more time with technology and so why not we take advantage of that tools for students to learn using those means to think critically and to create. They are digital learners and we teachers need to adopt to changing world to make our students the American students more globally competitive with the rest of the world. Students want to learn, its not that they don't want to, but we teachers have the responsibility to make sure that they learn in a way they are comfortable with and "cool".

  5. Students already use technology in their everydays lives. It is a way for them to connect to the world around them. We need to teach them how to use technology in an academic sense. This will only enchance their education as well as acess to the world.

Using technology is also an application process so it encourages students to produce their thoughts, analyze information, as well as justify statements or problems.

  6. Technology is important for student engagement because it relates directly to their real lives and provides instant feed back. It also allows students to practice their typing skills, which as we all know, is incredibly important for college success.

  7. Students want a chance to engage in the material with technology they use everyday. One thing that resonated with me was when they said
"If we learn by doing, then what am I doing sitting her?" Students want to DO something, not just listen. They want to CREATE something that they are proud of and can share with their friends and family. Technology gives them the opportunity to do this, while learning valuable/competitive skills.

  9. Fernando,

I completely agree. Teaching needs to adapt to the technological world in which we live. We need to keep pace with our students and the global community that we live in. We need to produce students that can work with technology and posess the skills needed to adapt to new technology as it continues to advance. Education in the 21st century will and should look different than that of the 20th.

  10. Jasmin,

You are right students want to take ownership of their learning. Do you think that's happening with the way we are asked to teach now?

  11. To Jazmin and all of the above...

When students create and produce online their work is exposed to the world. I think this expectation will require our students to think about thier more critically before they produce. This will also expose them to the world and hopefully motivate them to be more academically competitive.

  12. Jazmine,

I love the idea of using technology to CREATE. TO make something that is unique and their own is the essense of learening and we need to be fostering that creativity!

  13. Sara,

How does technology promote students to justify their thought instead of traditional means?

  14. Lauren,

technology exposes our students to so much more than what we can offer them through graphic organizers and posters. It opens up different options and opinions.

  15. One thing that stick out in that video when students are telling their teachers to have them engaged. They are challenging their teachers to have them challenged in a way that they are interested and they like.

  16. Joe,

I think students are being asked to show their mastery of material in the same ways, which can become dull. Society values innovation and if we can present our students with an array of creative/tech saavy skills they have a better chance to succeed in this ever changing society.

  17. Joe,

In my opinion, I believe that using technology, such as blog or website, would be more product based learning. In product based learning it is my expectation and hope that students will justify and use critical thinking skills to create a well thought out response or produce that will be open for all to see online.
